THE QUINTA
Set on a hill-side, Escola de Equitação de Alcainça was originally built as traditional “Quinta”, a Portuguese country estate, complete with stables, indoor and outdoor schools, as well as an antique bull-fighting arena which is nowadays used mainly as a turnout for our horses.
Our horses are stabled around the facility and our guest rooms are almost door-to-door with the horses, enabling our guests to spend as much time as they please around the animals.
We endeavour to make our guests relax, feel part of the family and at home from the very first moment they arrive.
We have four en suite twin rooms on the property itself and a further three guest rooms located just across the street. The rooms are simply decorated, clean and cosy.
Home-made delicious Portuguese meals are served daily in the dining room overlooking the indoor riding school.
Lena, our chef, prepares all meals with healthy, fresh and mostly organic ingredients:
- continental breakfast with local bread, jams, cheese, cereals, seasonal fruit, orange juice, tea and coffee.
- 2-course lunch with a meat dish*, salad, fruit, house wines, water, coffee or tea.
- 3-course dinner with soup, a fish dish*, dessert, house wines, water, coffee or tea.
*vegetarian meals can be prepared upon request, please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies.
Complimentary water, tea and biscuits are always available in the dining room.
A pool, overlooking the bullfight arena and the outdoor school, provides a pleasant and refreshing interlude after riding. All our school horses are regularly turned out in paddocks and enjoy the sun just as our guests do at our pool!
Our Riders Lounge offers a quiet place to relax - next to an open fire in the winter - after a busy day of riding. Enjoy a glass of wine, a game of pool, or simply a good book and listen to the sounds of horses and rural countryside.
