This workshop will intrduce you to the basics of digital equine photography, guiding you through the steps of capturing both portraits and action shots with our beautiful horses.
Program
Saturday, October 05, 2024
Regular riding program with 1 or 2 lessons per day.
Afternoon: Introduction to the principles of the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO) followed by hands-on-sessions where you practice capturing portraits and action shots (approx. 4 h).
Sunday - October 06, 2024
Morning: Sunrise session where you capture the magic of horses in the soft, golden light of dawn, followed by an introduction to composition and how to set the mood in your equine photographs.
Afternoon: Hands-on-sessions with the horse & rider combination as well as insights into the post production workflow.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Adjust camera settings for capturing horses, both in portraits and in motion
- Manipulate the exposure triangle to achieve desired creative effects
- Convey moods through framing, composition, lighting, and other aesthetic choices
- Edit photos in the post production workflow
Supplement person for participation at the 1 ½ day Lusitano workshop: EUR 250
The following services are included:
- Guided photo sessions on location
- Guided editing session
- Non-commercial package – use of photos for portfolio & social media
*B&B, lunch, and dinner are part of the regular package for riding program at Escola de Equitação de Alcainça.
For external participants, an additional fee for meals and drinks applies.

- DSLR or Mirrorless Camera (e.g EOS R System) where you have full creative control with a Manual Mode. Compact Cameras as less feasible for this workshop.
- Ideally interchangeable lenses with various focal length ranges
- Memory cards and battery packs
- Notebook or tablet for post production
This introductory workshop is designed for beginners and amateur photographers who are eager to capture the beauty of our Lusitano horses with their cameras.
We accept a maximum of 6 participants for this workshop.
This workshop is instructed by Marianne Lozza.
Marianne is passionate about Lusitano horses and has been practicing equine photography at Escola de Equitação de Alcainça for many years.
She is an instructional designer/learning experience manager with a strong background in multimedia design.
